Nice one.

Here's the thing about the folks with their boots on the ground in IrafYemPakisghan:

They went over there to "kill terrorists." They really believe that shit. Even bright kids like Tillman. He wasn't watching fox, he was just young dumb and full of cum like all red-blooded, god-fearing macho fucktards.

Sadly, there just aren't all that many terrorists. Instead, they become the terrorists. (and deep in the back of their mind/soul they know this is the case.) You can only see so many kids in pieces before you start to have misgivings about purity of mission.

So it's not hard to see how a linear, authoritraian thinker like the baby killer in this instance would snap in a way similar to the Ft. Hood shooter Hassan.

The soldier becomes "terrorized" by the moral reality of his personal role in terrorizing the innocent. So, sans identifiable "terrorists" the innocent become the enemy. There's that and the reality that most people on their fourth tour in "theater" are ticking bombs that could go off anytime.

At least that's what I'd say if I was representing him.

And don't buy the Larium shit either- another cop-out. I took that shit for a year and I've never hit a woman or a kid, let alone shot a bunch to shit.

And to the guys at General Dynamics, the Pentagon and DHS reading this shit because of all the key words- go fuck yourselves and get a real job.

You want to fight terror? Teach 2nd grade and try and get the little shits to be civil to one another and the teacher. That's worth 200 Al-Awlaki hits in the real world.

PS - ...

Kurteek - Sick, no doubt, but honestly this style of scratching gives 99.9% of casual listeners a headache and is nothing but irritating to anybody but the people who do it.

Jimmy the Hideous - Sick, but same as above.

nozl - Nozl is great. I bought their first album when they released it a few years ago and I still listen to it. It's awesome. This was a good direction for scratching to be going in. The people who composed this way where pushing scratching in the right direction, I thought, but I felt like it hit a dead-end and no more progress was being made beyond a certain point. When it came down to it, the turntable was really just a super shitty production tool, and live, I rarely if ever heard the kind of clean, sharp, consistent sounds that I was hearing from polished studio albums.

Also, it's worth nothing that nothing Nozl does is as good as Sketchbook. Seems like I was right, the best shit has already been done. Is anybody doing anything really fresh?

Okay. I've only spent a few minutes on here but so far I'm not seeing anything new to really get me excited. Maybe you can tip me off to some specific people/bands/etc to look out for. What new techniques? I'm super open to suggestion here. I'd love nothing more than to fall back in love w/ scratching.

Also, on the subject of The Ruck. I listed to his new stuff a little. He's still the shit. He was an egotistical asshole, often, but I think he did more to create real, accessible music than anyone in the scene back in the day, even D-Styles (go ahead and flame away). Him and I had some super conversations on the boards and when I met him in person he was just super cool and friendly. I'll never hate on Rucker. No matter how much of an ass he is.

first I'd suggest Digital Vertigo (http://www.digitalvertigo.co.uk). Pretty good group of guys on the message board. Lots of sharing of music and video links there. Yoshi from Turntable Radio has created a series of tutorial vids for newer techniques and combos.....

additionally, I'd check out Kurteek's stuff (http://www.youtube.com/user/kurteek), Jimmy Penguin (http://www.youtube.com/user/jimmythehideous), and Nozl recordings (http://www.youtube.com/user/nozlrecordingsuk)

this is a good start..... I'm not posting links to any of Ricci's stuff. I'm not giving him the traffic.

Is there still a scratch community? If so please tell me where to find it. I used to be all over the D-Styles and Asisphonics boards back in the day. I loved (still do) scratching but I sort of gave up on it for a number of reasons. It's the only "instrument" I ever enjoyed playing. But, I found that although some people did amazing things with scratching, it was just endlessly frustrating to try to make music with and turntables were largely incompatible with other instruments. The sounds just ended up being too one dimensional and at face value scratch music was never really palatable by larger audiences. I figured everybody else had given up too, cause the boards just suddenly died overnight. But, if there's still people out there pushing boundaries and making rad music I'd love to hear it.

PS - The Ruck was amazing back in the day. He was a dick, though. Hit me back with links to his recent videos and music.
